SPOS #390 - B2B Social Media Marketing With Paul Gillin

Welcome to episode #390 of Six Pixels Of Separation - The Twist Image Podcast. I have been friends (and following) Paul Gillin for years. Back when I was giving some of the first full-day social media seminars to marketing professionals, his book, The New Influencers, was part of the recommended reading list. Gillin stayed connected to the intersection of social media, marketing and has a focus on the B2B landscape. The New Influencers came out in 2007 and Gillin has been prolific since that one was published. He wrote Secrets Of Social Media Marketing in 2008, The Joy of Geocaching with his wife in 2010,  Social Marketing To The Business Customer with Eric Schwartzman in 2011, and most recently, Attack Of The Customers. I'm thrilled that the veteran technology journalist agreed to talk about all things digital with me. Enjoy the conversation...

At the 4 minute mark Paul recommends a book.

He referenced the "Age of Connection", but I think he meant:

Age of Context: Mobile, Sensors, Data and the Future of Privacy
Robert Scoble (Author), Shel Israel (Author)

+ Love your talks Mitch, I never miss an episode!

Another good interview and good get Scott. Paul knows his stuff.

I got this book so my comments are based on listening to this podcast and not reading the book.

I think businesses will have to learn from politicians on how to engage with their constituents and how to interpret polls to understand the changing sentiments of their constituents. Politicians are lucky that they don't face voters for at least two to four years. Businesses, unfortunately, do not have this luxury; everyday is an election day. This is the new reality. So it is not politicians who have to be more like businessmen, but vice versa too.
