SPOS #196 - Jaffe And Joel #3

Welcome to episode #196 of Six Pixels Of Separation - The Twist Image Podcast. Joseph Jaffe is widely regarded as one of the top Marketing Bloggers (Jaffe Juice) and Podcasters (both Jaffe Juice in audio and Jaffe Juice TV in video). He is the author of three excellent books (Life After The 30-Second Spot, Join The Conversation and the newly minted, Flip The Funnel). Along with that, he is currently one of the chiefs over at the Social Media Marketing agency, Powered. A long time friend (and one of the main inspirations behind the Six Pixels of Separation Blog and Podcast), we've decided to hold monthly conversations, debates and back-and-forths that will dive a little deeper into the Digital Marketing and Social Media landscape. This is our third conversation, and it focuses on location-aware Social Media and the new mobile stuff with a heavy emphasis on the current bright, shiny object, Foursquare. Enjoy the conversation...

Here it is: Six Pixels Of Separation - The Twist Image Podcast - Episode #196 - Host: Mitch Joel.

    Mitch, I couldn't agree more. Once consumers start to use so-lo apps primarily for personal use only (not for their ego) to connect with close friends and to check out new places based on recommendations or tips Foursquare becomes very useful.

    Small business owners with physical locations still have the privacy issue to consider, but checking in to their store location and sharing via their social networks could be a way to begin creating awareness through these channels - so here it would ultimately depend on the individual.

    As a marketer, I definitely see the potential for customized mobile offers and customer loyalty programs via these so-lo applications. If businesses conclude that their customer's social behaviour includes time spent on these networks than it would be advisable for them to be at least present and begin experimenting.

    Mitch: I listen to your podcast regularly. I also enjoyed your book. I particularly find the "Media Hacks" sessions, very entertaining and enlightening. The postcast with Jaffe was terrible. It came across as this pointless argumentative exchange between you and this bombastic know it all. It seems to me that your other podcasts in which you interviewed someone were friendly, and very positive in their process, and the information that was exchanged. Jaffe and Joel #3 was as Glen Beck might say;"a waste of my time".

    Thanks
    Greg

      Greg -

      One man's pleasure is another man's poison. Mitch and I felt that there's not enough healthy and respectful debate today. Just a bunch of nodding heads all agreeing with each other and patting each other on the back. That's boring imo.

      I appreciate your sentiment and listen to all comments/feedback. That said, it appears the majority of responses are overwhelmingly positive. I'm going to defer to the crowd in this instance.

      Sincerely,

      The Bombastic know it all :)

        Joseph;
        Touche. Thanks for taking the time to read and respond. In a world of nodding heads it is reassuring to be heard sometimes. And yes, do not all agree with each other all the time. That is what makes life so interesting.
        Regards
        Greg
