The Marketer's Summer Reading List For 2008

What business and motivational books are going to push you forward in 2008/2009? For the past few years I've compiled lists of books I'm reading, want to read and need to read. You can check out my Summer Reading List for last year right here: Summer Reading List - Business, Motivation And Non-Fiction Books I'm Digging Into. Well, summer is finally here again, so I thought I would take a look at the books I've devoured since last year, the ones I'm in the middle of, and even a few that I still need to pick up. If you can think of others (or if I've missed any), please feel free to add them below. It would be nice to have a running list/resource for other Marketing, Advertising and Communications professionals. I've done everything to list books that have only come out since my last list.

If you're not that big of reader, you can also listen to some interesting conversations I've been having with authors over here: Foreword Thinking - The Business And Motivational Book Review Podcast.

Here is The Marketer's Summer Reading List For 2008 (in alphabetical order):

The Adventures of Johnny Bunko - The Last Career Guide You'll Ever Need by Daniel Pink.

The Big Switch - Rewiring the World, from Edison to Google by Nicholas Carr.

Brain Rules - 12 Principles for Surviving and Thriving at Work, Home, and School by John Medina.

Buying In - The Secret Dialogue Between What We Buy and Who We Are by Rob Walker.

Groundswell - Winning in a World Transformed by Social Technologies by Charlene Li and Josh Bernoff.

Here Comes Everybody by Clay Shirkey.

Join the Conversation - How to Engage Marketing-Weary Consumers with the Power of Community, Dialogue, and Partnership by Joseph Jaffe.

The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch.

Meatball Sundae - Is Your Marketing out of Sync? by Seth Godin.

Personality Not Included - Why Companies Lose Their Authenticity And How Great Brands Get it Back by Rohit Bhargava.

Predictably Irrational - The Hidden Forces That Shape Our Decisions by Dan Ariely.

Presentation Zen - Simple Ideas on Presentation Design and Delivery (Voices That Matter) - by Garr Reynolds.

Web Analytics - An Hour A Day by Avinash Kaushik.

The Word of Mouth Manual - Volume II by Dave Balter (this one is also a free PDF download - grab it while you still can).

Happy Reading. Happy Summer.

That's a good list Mitch. Good choice on limiting it to books that came out this year. I know for me there are just so many books still to catch up on from a few years ago still.

I'll contribute by adding in the book I'm reading at the moment which is Barry Schwartz's, The Paradox of Choice - Why More Is Less, How the Culture of Abundance Robs Us Of Satisfaction

Great List Mitch . Read all the books on this list 4 years ago, and by coincidence had a discussion at work a few days ago, where i had to assign reading material for all our managers and leaders. And the first thing i did was to come and look at your list for inspiration.

Strangely enough, i just realised that this post was published exactly 4 years ago.... The books you recommended then are as relevant in 2012, as they were then. So i am going to make them must reads for everyone at work.

You should definitely publish a new summer of 2012 reading list (or just republish this one!)
