Media Hacks Audio Podcast #34 Is Now Live

Episode #215 of Six Pixels of Separation - The Twist Image Podcast is now live and ready for you to listen to. This also episode #34 of Media Hacks.

Hugh McGuire (Book Oven, Bite-Sized Edits, LibriVox), Julien Smith (co-author of Trust Agents, In Over Your Head) and I met for a sushi lunch and decided to record the latest episode of Media Hacks. We all agree that we love the ambient background noise (even the music) that comes from recording live - we hope you do too. We're not sure if it was the green tea or the sashimi that brought us down the rambling topics we cover, but it sure was heavy, intense and required most of us to get some fresh air right after recording. In this episode we look at everything from publishing, privacy, data and location to anonymity, net neutrality, circumcision (not a typo) and the future of media. The biggest thought: it's getting hard to opt-out of the online world and perhaps we have to review our own perceptions of ourselves. Enjoy the conversation...

Mitch, another great episode. The extended riff on mobile was an important one for me, and also the reason that I may have shared this particular episode with more people than I normally do.

Thanks for all you do for FREE (including your commenting), I still don't think that's acknowledged anywhere near as often as it should be.

    • I appreciate that Joe. I just love what I do, so while I enjoy the comments and the back and forth, I'd probably still be doing all of this if no one was reading or listening to it. I'm glad that this content resonates with others as well... it is very validating.

Mitch - another great episode of Media Hacks if I might say. Haven't missed one yet.

I especially liked the sidebar on blog comments. I've noticed your comment participation AND the total number of comments shoot up since your conversation with Avinash a few weeks back. I have always believed strongly that commentors are golden.

And you guys didn't even talk about the ultimate tactic that Avinash uses. He emails everyone that comments on his posts. Think about it. How many times have you left a comment on a blog and didn't or were unable to subscribe to replies? Sending the email cements the bond between blog and commenter that much more.

Something to think about. In the meantime, keep on podcastin'!

    • Dabbling in the comments and diving into the minutia... and really loving it. If digital is a new type of publishing, we all need to embrace what it brings that makes it different and unique.

I used to email thanks on comments too... now I'm going to do my best to respond to each one on the Blog. Let's see how it goes :)

As always, gem packed. I would answer the question, "what does the new Kindle for 99$ mean" as follows: It means you are about one Thanksgiving away from "buy 119$ worth of digital books and you get the device on top"...

Side note, have you thought about extending the conversation by including a "post to twitter" comment system, like echo, disqus or this new one livefyr?
