MacBook Air - Apple Does It Again... And Me Wants

While it was one of the worst-kept secrets, Apple unveiled (in usual stellar Steve Jobs style) the new MacBook Air today.

Loyal readers of Six Pixels of Separation already know my penchant and passion for ultra-portable laptops. My highly talked about Sony Vaio VGN-TZ160C is still much loved, but here comes Apple with their own ultra-portable Mac, and it's definitely competitive. The biggest indicator for me was going to be the battery life. According to Jobs' keynote, the battery will last five hours (more than respectable). I like the way it looks and I like all of the interesting developments around the touchpad and its new iPhone like capabilities (called multi-touch).

Take a look. If not of out of sheer interest than in the spirit of seeing how the Marketing collateral and buzz all flows together. And, in the spirit of innovation.

First up, there's the official Apple Site: Apple MacBook Air.

Then, you can take a look at what the tech gadgets Blogs are yapping about here: Engadget - MacBook Air - Plenty More Details and here:

Gizmodo - Apple MacBook Air Looks Absolutely Amazing.

It's amazing how the Apple brand works. With little Social Media and online community, through innovation to making product launches hyped as much as a rock n' roll concert. Nerds and Geeks (like me) never had it this good.

And, just for fun, check out this video: YouTube - MacBook Air Hands Hands On:

I remember when you told me that what was keeping away from Mac was the portability. Well, I'll have you know this, Mitch: once you go Mac, you never go back.

This new Macbook is huge compared to your Vaio. Engadget has some photos comparing it to a 15" Macbook Pro, and it's barely smaller.

This is hardly an ultraportable. I don't think this is the Mac you've been waiting for.

The first thing I thought when i saw this on the Apple site was "I need this. Now." The second thought was "I wonder if Mitch will make the switch now?"

Go see Gizmodo face-off and tell me if Mac is still the deal you thought it was...

If I don't have to use crappy Vista on my laptop then the MacBook Air is still very much the deal I thought it was.

Yes, MacBook Air is pretty cool. I'm interested in knowing what you think once you try one. I've been using Apple computers for a long time and love them.

I think the update to Apple TV and the implication for dvds rentals and sales is bigger story here. Will Apple do to movies and tv what it's done for music? What will happen to companies currently renting/selling that content on and offline. Are they ready to update their business model and compete with Apple?
